Before I say anything else: I was just browsing my blog stats. One part tells me how people navigated to my page (through a link or search engine). Apparently, I am on the first page of google search results for the phrase “drop in sunscreen sales volume.” I find that extremely hilarious.
Joe: No food goes to waste. We never finish, but the people who work at the restaurant (and the kitchen workers at the school) take home left overs. They start boxing it up for themselves as soon as we stand up. I don’t know if there is a hip-hop “culture” per say, but a lot of the bars the other night were playing hip hop. I haven’t seen evidence that this pervades any part of Chinese culture besides music at bars.
I am getting better, still, but I believe my healing process is being hindered by the construction at the school or, more specifically, the dust that it produces:

Here are some pictures from Steve’s and my night out:
The latin band, singing La Bamba:

(Where is the Chinese?? This is the bar we ended up at.)

(A fellow Americano!)
This afternoon Anne, Freddie and I went to a student’s house. His name is Jerry, but he isn’t my Jerry. The home was disappointingly unsurprising. It was a three story town house (plus basement) that I would have been impressed with in America. The only hint that it wasn’t an American household was the ever present stuffed animals, pictures and paper cuttings of pigs (it is the year of the pig) and the altar.

Oh, and here is my class! We have to perform the last day (!?!?). One girl suggested “Do Re Me.” They seem to know it. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Steve awaits the computer, so I leave you.
Hi Jamie, Glad you’re feeling better. I would take the antibiotic for 10 days. That is so scarey about the asthma attack. I am sooooooo glad we packed you that emergency inhaler. Karma (the super dog)is doing well. She does miss you alot, but dad and I are taking extra good care of her. We made our bed this morning and when we returned home from the grocery store she had pulled down the covers on dads side and settled in. It was so cute. Dad and I miss you alot also. Thank goodness for your blog and skype. Thanks for all the pictures. They really help tell the story. Stay safe and healthy Jamie. I love you, Mom

It’s mom again. Does your class have to perform a song the last day? How about, We Are The World. Remember we did that in Girl Scouts one year. Just a thought. Love you.

Haha I just searched the “sunscreen sales volume” thing and you were right there, #1, and it was the first few lines of your blog. I think I will continue using that link for laughs. Thanks for the q/a session regarding food, I learn so much from your blog. I am working alot this week, but its awsome to come home and know there is a new blog there I can read and learn about your time. The house you visited does look quite americanized, or perhaps all of our houses are “chinesed”/ Look forward to more stuff!

If I had to lead a group of young scholars, the song would begin with “The other day…..I saw a dog…Up in the woods ….a way up there !!! ” Keep up the great work you are doing . Love Karma

The bear song is quite in order. Its perfect: Call and Answer, fun, and historically relevant. That third tenet is more of a strech I guess. I would go for it!
